Danger becomes imminent when filmmaker Nanfu Wang decides to follow activist Ye Haiyan (a.k.a Hooligan Sparrow) and her troupe to Hainan Province in southern China where sexual abuse of six girls by their school’s principal has been reported. Marked as enemies of the state, these activists live under constant surveillance by the government and have been often interrogated and arrested. Having her cameras destroyed and suffering from constant intimidation, Ye talks about her revolutionary journey and her seemingly impossible struggle for human rights. Sundance, 2016.
