Susana Le Marchand, a lonely housewife who is ignored by her rich husband, is looking for a new maid. Her old gardener gives her a present from his wife, Hilda. Moved by this gesture, Susana decides to hire the lady. Among the ordinary knickknacks of a bourgeois household, Hilda finds an old collection of Marxist books belonging to Susana. This small treasure leads Susana to reconnect with her militant left-wing youth, and to face up to the emptiness of her current life. Along with her new maid, she plans a revolution.
