Little sisters Ying, Zhen and Fen live alone in Yunan, in a very poor part of China. Their mother has abandoned them and the father works many miles away. With no maternal figure around, they don't go to school and spend their days working on the field or strolling about the village. Gradually, 10 year old Ying, the eldest, starts to take on the mother role and the responsibility for her sisters. One day, worried about their daughters' future, the father decides to take Zhen and Fen to live in the town, leaving Ying in the care of her grandafther. Rotterdam Film Festival 2013.
Wang Bing
Born in China, in 1967. His 9-hour documentary West of the Tracks (2003) won the Grand Prize at the Marseille Documentary Festival, and was shown in other international festivals, making him a prominent name in contemporary documentary. His film He Fengming (2007) was show at Cannes, in 2007. In 2010, he took part of the Venice Film Festival competition with The Ditch (2010). His film ‘Til Madness Do Us Part (2012) will also be shown at the Festival.
