Writer and essayist, a staunch critic of his country’s positions, Vidal is celebrated in here with footage shot since 2005. The highlight is the interview he had with director Wrathall. The importance of the Ben-Hur writer and author of books such as The City and The Pillar, Julian and Narratives of Empire is highlighted in interviews with Sting, Tim Robbins and Dick Cavett, among others. Nicholas Wrathall
Born in Australia, he spent his childhood between his native country and Canada and attended the University of Sydney. At 22 he moved to the US, where he started working in music videos. In 2000 he directed the TV documentary Abandoned: The Betrayal of America's Immigrants. He is also the director of Independent Lens (2001). Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia is his first feature-length film.
