After his successful debut, Director Kim endures scathing attacks from critics in 1970s Korea. After finishing his latest feature, he has vivid dreams of an alternative ending to the film. Sensing that if he can just shoot those scenes as he envisioned them, a masterpiece will surely emerge, he tries to arrange just two days of additional shooting. However, the rewritten script fails to pass censorship, and his actors can’t make sense of the new ending. Director Kim feels he is about to go insane, but he pushes on regardless… Exhibited at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Kim Jee-woon
Born in 1964 in South Korea, he dropped out of college to learn in practice and, after writing and directing some plays, began his career in film as an assistant director. In 1997, he won a script competition that enabled his directorial debut with The Quiet Family (1998). He explored different genres in the following projects and exhibited The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008) at many festivals. In 2013, he debuted in Hollywood with The Last Stand.
