Vivian Maier went through life as a just a nanny – childless, unmarried, without close relatives. Nowadays, however, she is known to be one of the most talented and shrewd street photographers in America. This posthumous recognition was possible thanks to the discovery of a real treasure hidden in the apartment Vivian lived until her death in 2009: over 100 thousand pictures of the wonders and peculiarities of urban America. Following leads spread all over the US, this documentary solves the mysteries behind these pictures and Maier’s own life. Toronto Film Festival 2013.

John Maloof, Charlie Siskel

John Maloof is a director, photographer and historian. He is chief-curator of Maier’s work and editor of the book Vivian Maier: Street Photographer. Charlie Siskel is a film and TV producer. He produced films such as Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine (2002), winner of an Academy Award for best documentary. This film marks their feature-length directorial debut.
