The day to day life in an isolated psychiatric hospital in southwest China. Housing circa 100 patients, the institute now gives shelter to murderers, mentally disabled individuals and people arrested for disrupting the order. Distant from the usual opinions surrounding the theme, Wang Bing observes the routine of forsaken men who, amid comings and goings down the institute’s hallways, all seek in their own way a little warmth and affection. However, a kind of freedom rises from the terror of confinement, away from behavioral restrictions and basic morality principles. Venice 2013.
