The 1980s. Empire is a glorious old movie theater on the south coast of England. A dedicated employee of the place, Hilary neither watches movies nor has an easy life, but she finds new joy with the arrival of Stephen, a black boy who joins the team and immediately wins her over.
Sam Mendes
Sam Mendes was born in 1965 in England and began his career in London theater. His film directorial debut, American Beauty (1999), won him the Oscar for Best Director. Since then, Mendes divides his time between screens and stages. His filmography includes Road to Perdition (2002), Revolutionary Road (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and 1917 (2019).
