Egili Oliveira is getting ready for Carnaval 2022 in Rio de Janeiro. She takes part in the competition of the second division of the Rio Carnaval (Gold series). It is a long hard process before the samba dancer transforms herself into a gorgeous queen: the queen of the drummers of the samba group Acadêmicos de Vigário Geral. The story of a strong black woman, who at the age of 42, still fights for her space in Brazilian society and in Carnival.
Caroline Reucker
Born in Marl/North Rhine-Westphalia, in Germany, in 1985. Studied direction of documentaries at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Her films are characterised by an empathetic and open attitude allowing for intimate perceptions about unknown and uncommon realities of life. Since 2021, she lives and works as a freelance producer, director and filmmaker in Rio de Janeiro. EGILI – Rainha Retinta no Carnaval is her debut documentary for cinema.
