Despite all the efforts of her family to contain her, Deng is a stubborn widow. She spends her days worrying excessively about her two grown-up sons and making daily visits to her mother's retirement home, even though the senile lady doesn't acknowledge her presence. The ghost of Deng's recently deceased husband is her only company – until one day a more menacing presence starts haunting her daily routine. Deng starts to receive strange anonymous phone calls and needs to find out if she’s imagining the calls or if someone is really after her. Toronto and Venice Festival 2014.

Nasceu em 1966 em Shangai, e se formou em cinema pela Beijing Film Academy. Junto a Jia Zhangke e outros nomes de destaque, faz parte do que é conhecida como a "sexta geração" de cineastas chineses. Entre seus filmes, destacam-se Bicicletas de Pequim, vencedor do Urso de Ouro no Festival de Berlim 2001, Sonhos com Shanghai, prêmio do júri em Cannes 2005 e 11 Fleurs (2011), coprodução da França e China.
