When Saul Armendariz, (Gael García Bernal) begins to compete in Mexican wrestling at the end of the 1980s, he refuses to assume the role of an exotic drag fighter. However on getting to know Sabrina, Saúl not only gains a trainer but also a friend who helps him to find the courage to assume his personality inside and outside the ring. After facing many challenges he creates the Cassandro, an improbable, openly gay, hero who helps Saul to change how he sees himself and develop a new proposal for his own life. Exhibited at Sundance 2023.

Director, producer and writer born in the USA in 1962, began his career as TV producer in the 1980s. He became the first black director to win an Oscar with the short documentary Music by Prudence (2010). Directed the documentaries Life, Animated (2016) — indicado ao Oscar —, God Loves Uganda (2013) and The Apollo (2019), winner of an Emmy.
