The story of a man who fights against adversity and against his own destiny to become a powerful mafioso in Mumbai. In the 1960s, Balraj is a boxer who falls in love with Rosie, a jazz singer used to rich men and flatterers. Balraj would do anything to win her over, and, when he falls into favour with businessman Kaizad Khambatta, owner of the Bombay Velvet nightclub, he rises in the crime world, attracting the attention of his beloved. Anurag Kashyap
Born in Gorakhpur, India, in 1972. His feature Black Friday (2004) was an official selection at the Locarno Film Festival. He directed films such as No Smoking (2007) and That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011). In 2012 he made the epic Ganges of Wasseypur, with a running time of 320 minutes; it was selected for the Director’s Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. He had another film in the same section the following year: Ugly (2013).
