Aya, a young woman from the Ivory Coast, leaves her bridegroom at the altar to begin a new life in China. Living in an area characterised by the African diaspora, she begins to work in a tea exporting store where she gets to know Cai, a 45 year old Chinese man. Despite the barriers of social prejudice, Aya and Cai fall in love. But will they be able to survive the turbulence of their pasts and others' prejudices? Competition Berlinale 2024.

Abderrahmane Sissako

Born in Mauritania in 1961 and brought up in Mali, he went to the Soviet Union to study cinema and shot his first shorts there. His first features were Rostov-Luanda (1997) and Life on Earth (1998). Waiting for Happiness (2002) and Timbuktu (2014) were awarded at Cannes.
