This documentary by Barbara Hammer looks at Elizabeth Bishop: her life, work, homes and love stories, including her turbulent romance with Lota de Macedo Soares, which was the inspiration for the film Reaching for the Moon. Looking at Bishop’s various personalities, from her childhood in Nova Scotia up until her death in 1979, the viewer is transported to the poet’s world, discovering facets of a complex and passionate person. Draws on interviews with literary figures such as Nélida Piñon and Marie-Claire Blais, as well as with Lota’s nanny.
