In Tijuana, Mexico, 14-year old Sofia falls in love with Ulises. However, she does not know that he is running an evil scheme with his father and older brother to get girls into prostitution and sexual slavery. Upon finding out the truth, Sofia tries to escape, but soon is captured and put to work. Ulises is also in love with her, and cannot bear to see her in this situation. In order to save her, he must comply with an awful ultimatum: find another girl to replace Sofia. Un Certain Regard, Cannes Film Festival 2015.
David Pablos
He graduated from the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City, and won a Fulbright Scholarship to do his master’s at Columbia. In 2009 he took part in the Berlinale Talent Campus. In 2010, he released his first feature documentary One Frontier, All Frontiers at IDFA. In 2013 he directed The Life After, shown at the Venice Film Festival.
