Armando Costa was one of the most sucessful Brazilian authors both with the general public and the critics. A bohemian with an agitated life, he helped to found the Centre for Popular Culture of the National Students' Union — UNE — and Grupo Opinião, in the 1960s. On TV, he became famous with Grande Família and Malu Mulher, very popular programmes on Rede Globo. He was also one of the principal partners of comedians Jô Soares and Hugo Carvana, but he was never concerned with fame or claiming the authorship of his work.
