Scripted and filmed around real events between 2015-2019, American Thief follows its protagonists in a plot designed to manipulate the 2016 American presidential election. Toncruz, an adolescent hacker, uses the internet to try to avenge the death of his father, while his best friend, Diop, uses hacking as a tool in the struggle for racial justice. Paul Hunter, a wild digital influencer known as " Homem da van ", and Toncruz are contacted by an unidentified user of the Dark Web who claims to have access to secrets that they are trying to uncover.
