Gitti and Chris are an awkward couple spending the holidays together, isolated in the country. A seemingly unimportant event – a meeting with another couple – has a shattering effect on their relationship. Not only is the other couple more successful, but they are also able to hide conventional gender roles behind a façade of modernity. An intimate portrait of two people and what they become when they are alone: their secret rituals, fooleries, unfulfilled dreams and their little power plays. Maren Ade
Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1976. She studied production and direction at the Munich University of Cinema and TV. Her first feature film, The Forest for the Trees (2003), won a special jury award at the Sundance Film Festival. Everyone Else was part of the official competition in Berlin, where it won the award for best actress and the grand jury prize. She has also produced films such as Christoph Hochhäusler’s Sleeping Sickness (2011) and Miguel Gomes’ Tabu (2012).
