​Edith Cushing, a young writer, spends her life fleeing from a childhood trauma. She is now divided between her childhood friend, Dr Alan McMichael, and a mysterious stranger, Sir Thomas Sharpe. When she decides to marry Thomas, she goes to live with him and his sister, Lady Lucille Sharpe, in a mansion on Scarlet Hill. Trying to flee from the ghosts of her past, Edith begins to notice that the house around her breathes, bleeds, has a memory, and is inhabited by spirits. ​Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1964. He studied at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Cinematográficos de Guadalajara. His first feature was Cronos (1993), shown at Cannes Critics’ Week. Highlights of his filmography include The Devil’s Backbone (2001), Hellboy (2004) and Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), which competed at Cannes and was nominated for the Oscar for best original screenplay. He made the TV series The Strain. ​
