There is a lot of expectation for the hors concours screening of Paulo Machline's Trinta that takes place at the magnificent Teatro Municipal on Wednesday, 1 October at 20.30. The film stars Matheus Nachtergaele - who won the festival's best director prize in 2008 - as the legendary carnvalesco Joãosinho Trinta, a man who revolutionized Rio´s carnival parade and is recognised as having been one of Brazil's most innovative and creative artists of all time.

Based on a true story, the film tells the story of Trinta, a self-taught artist who leaves São Luís in the Brazilian northeast to be a dancer in Rio de Janeiro at the Theatro Municipal. He then discovers that his real talent is for carnival, filling in at the last moment for Fernando Pamplona as the caranvalesco (or director) of the parade of the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro in the carnival of 1974. His creations took Rio de Janeiro's carnival parade to another artistic level.

The film opens in Brazil on 13 November.
