Recent festival prize winners are screening during Festival do Rio. Mexican Alonso Ruiz Palacios’ coming-of-age comedy Gueros,  part of Focus Mexico, won the Horizontes section at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Gueros, which also took the Youth Award, screens Sunday at 20.00 at Cine Joia, 3 October at Estação Ipanema, 5 October at Cinepolis Lagoon, and 6 October at Estação Rio.

Yann Demange’s ’71 has won the best film award – the Golden Athena – at the 20th Athens International Film Festival. The film stars Jack O’Connell as a soldier left behind enemy lines in Belfast during the height of the Troubles. ´71 can be seen on 2 October at the Roxy at 14.00 and 19.10 and on 5 October at Cinepolis Lagoon at 17.00.

In Athens Eskil Vogt won the best director trophy for Norwegian drama Blind. The film, which also won awards at Berlin and Sundance (where it debuted), is about a recently blind woman who fears and fantasies begin to take over her life. Blind screens at Estação Ipanema on 30 September at 13.30 and 20.00 and on 6 October at Cinepolis Lagoon at 17.00.
