Canadian director Kevin Hegge will introduce She Said Boom: The Story of Fifth Column, which screens as part of Gay World, at Estação Vivo Gavea on Tuesday at 19.50.

The film tells the stroy of a group of young women who gathered in Toronto in the early 1980s  to make music, films and fanzines that challenged conventional artistic practices, gender roles and notions of femininity. The Fifth Column, a precursor to the Riot Grrrl movement from which bands like Le Tigre ended up emerging, stretched itself to a global artform allied to political movements. Despite the major impact their work had at the time, almost no one knows or seems to remember the Fitfh Column. And this film shows why.
